The composer Jules Riley asked me to provide him with a few poems suitable to set as a song cycle to celebrate the 30th birthday of the Tabernacl, the home of MOMA Machynlleth, where there are a number of galleries and a concert hall. I suggested six poems which had already been published in Y Traethodydd and which were subsequently published in Lluniadau (Aberystwyth, 2020), and wrote an additional one, ‘Caffi Jane’. Jules wrote the piece for the unusual combination of baritone, clarinet and piano, dedicating the work to Andrew Lambert. He also presented a copy of the score to Jane Parry, who ran the café at that time.
